Easy Packing and Unpacking for Interstate Relocation

Moving your home to the Interstate is more challenging than moving within the same state.

Are you considering moving to a new home or office in a new state? Has your company transferred you to one of their other branches in another state?  Do you need to pack up your family and household to move interstate? There are many reasons why you might need to pack up your household or your office, which means that you will have to start packing up your home or office.

Packing and unpacking

1. Declutter, recycle, and dispose of unwanted items.

The less you move, the easier the task of packing and unpacking will be; therefore, it’s a good idea to sort through all of your household and office items, decide what you want to take with you, and recycle or dispose of the rest.

2. Packing materials

It is a good idea to make sure that you have gathered enough packing materials such as boxes, packing tape, blankets, and bubble wrap, so that once you have started packing you do not need to stop because you have run out of packing equipment.

3. New/used boxes

You don’t need to buy new boxes so that you can pack your possessions in. There are places where you can rent new or used boxes. You can also find used boxes at your local grocery store.

4. Different box sizes

Make sure that you have a range of boxes in different sizes. Smaller boxes are good for heavier items, while bigger boxes are best used for packing lightweight goods. This will allow you to pick up the box without straining or hurting yourself. For example, if you pack all of your books into a wardrobe box, you won’t be able to pick the box up. Pack all of your books into a range of smaller boxes that are easy to manoeuvre around.

5. Label each box

In order to prevent chaos at your destination, it’s important to label each box with both its contents and the room it belongs in. In this way, you will be able to see which box belongs where and what is contained within the box.

6. Packing clothing

A wardrobe box has a metal rail across the top of the box, allowing you to leave all of your hanging clothes on their hangers and pack them straight into a wardrobe box. You will be able to open this box at your destination and unpack its contents straight into the wardrobe.

7. Pack emergency items separately

You will need to pack a box consisting of the goods you will need for the first couple of nights in your new home. Label this box well and make sure it is loaded last so it can be unloaded first.  This will allow you to make beds and cook a simple meal while the rest of your household items are being unloaded.
