Moving home is a stressful affair – and the day itself can seem quite frantic, between having the most efficient removalists in Randwick or Parramatta picking up your stuff, organizing picking up keys from the real estate, and getting your kids ready for school and making sure you’ve booked in your utilities to be connected – it can be quite a complicated day. Make sure you have a list of essentials to bring with you on the day!

Clean Bedding

One of the last things you’ll do before packing boxes into a truck is to strip your bed. If those linens are clean enough, pack them away separately. Then, when you arrive at your new home, you can make the bed. It’s amazing what a freshly made bed can do to make a room feel settled instead of in chaos!

Cleaning Supplies

Having basic cleaning supplies on hand will come in handy, including for those who hire house cleaning services. Although the previous renter or seller has an expectation to provide the property in a clean condition, you should still expect dirt and dust to be tracked into your home along with the movers and your boxes. And with many moving parts, spills, and unexpected messes are likely, which is why having cleaning supplies readily available or relying on a professional house cleaning service can help ensure your new home stays clean and tidy.

Toolkit & Torch

While you probably won’t be hanging pictures on the wall for a while, having a basic toolkit is a moving essential. If you had disassembled any furniture like sofas or bed frames for the move, and depending on whether your North Shore or Bondi removals company policy, you may need to have a screwdriver or mallet on hand. And depending on the property you move into, a torch/ flashlight will be very useful.

Phone Chargers and Bluetooth Speakers

OK, 10 years ago this may not have been considered to be essential. But now, it definitely is. Phone batteries can drain quickly, especially if using maps apps, making lots of calls, etc. Once you’ve moved into the new place, have a Bluetooth speaker to help you enjoy your unpacking process

Snacks and Water

Very important – possibly the most important. Make sure not to forget to rehydrate yourself, and recharge your batteries. The only time you don’t need the snacks (water is always needed), is if you have asked one of the questions before deciding to move and have a new local takeaway you are keen to try on the first day!

A Small Overnight Bag

One of the big things with moving that can get overlooked is the first night in the place. Be prepared that you may not get as much unpacking done on a moving day as you would like. Make sure you have a bag with essential toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste, shower gel, toilet paper, and hand soap ready.

A Change of Clothes

Trust me when I say that a change of clothes, at the very least a fresh T-shirt, socks, and undies, is one of the best moving day life hacks. Especially if you are not using removalists. Moving your life from one place to another is a hell of a workout, and your pedometer will rack up the steps. If you tend to sweat, it’s good to have a spare set of clothes to hand.

So happy moving, and remember, bringing these essentials with you will give you the best possible start to life in your new home!

About The Author

Bill Chen

Before 2008, Bill was working with a local removalist company in Sydney and was witness for a number of deformities and wrongs in the working of the company. Observing the atmosphere, a thought came to Bill’s mind that he could do much better if he were the owner of the company, by offering a fully transparent service to the clients with a friendly and trustworthy staff and no hidden fee structure; and thus, in 2008, AAA Bill Removalists Sydney was formed with just one truck and only Bill as staff. Even if Bill Chen began the company as just one man, the company grew fast. The operation expanded beyond the Sydney suburbs and to the surrounding cities: Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne, Brisbane, and other.
