Do you want to move house without a single stress? Well, you can, so long as you are organised and well-prepared.
Moving house is a breeze if you know how it’s done. Remember what I’ve always said: if you fail to prepare, then prepare to fail. When you use the best removalists Sydney can boast, and organise your move like a pro, your move will be smooth sailing! Here are some of those organising tips.
Prep Early
Don’t leave the decluttering and packing until the last minute, as this will make it much more stressful! Instead, to eliminate moving stress, I recommend your prep work in phases. About 3 weeks before you pack, you should begin your purge. Once done, then you know what will be moving with you and you can systematically approach the packed room by room, or area by area.
Declutter your current home
Playing off the previous tip, get your current home decluttered. You will have a lot of things that you will not want to bring with you anyway – be it furniture that won’t fit your new place or just general things you’ve accumulated over the years of living here. It will make your move itself much simpler – even if you’re using the top removalists Western Sydney has to offer.
Organise your current home
Maybe it seems like a waste of time, but it will help you out massively. Start organising your kitchen utensils, clothes, or your book collection ahead of time. Then it’s easier to just pick it up and take it with you.
Pack by room
At this point, this is one of the most cliched pieces of advice that’s given pre-move. But it is this way for a reason! If you pack boxes by room, then you will always know where your stuff is.
Label your stuff clearly
It should go without saying, but label all your boxes, bags, containers, etc with the room they are to go into. It makes everything much, much easier, trust me.
Plan your movements on a moving day, and factor in breaks
What time can you pick up the keys? What time will the removalists arrive? How long is the drive? Try to arrange your day so you’re not running around like a headless chicken, and don’t forget to factor in meal breaks and calls of nature.
Set some goals for organisation
Envision how you want your new place to look. Picture your towels perfectly folded and fit into your linen press or your pots and pans ordered by size, volume, colour, and everything else. Doing this will help your move – especially at the unpacking stage.
Unpack with a self-imposed deadline
One of the often overlooked facets of a move that causes the highest amount of stress is prolonging the unpacking stage. Often, people move and it can take a few weeks or even months to finally be rid of all boxes and be set. Well, set yourself a goal, ideally within just a few short days, and stick to it.
Prep your heavy ticket items for moving before the movers arrive
This is great for saving time, especially on the part of your movers, but it also helps to avoid damage during the move. This includes unscrewing feet from sofas (if possible), taping drawers to the bedside table or tallboy, unplugging and draining appliances, and so on.
Change address through utility companies etc before moving day
Another one is to not leave until the last minute – especially if you are moving on a Friday as this can mean delays until Monday. Energy companies in particular can be notorious for switching you off! Internet providers also are increasingly important these days, so don’t forget!
So for a breezy, smooth move, follow these tips and happy moving!
