Have you been considering relocating home or moving interstate? Want to move from that 12th-floor apartment to that townhouse with a courtyard so your dog can have some room to run around? Or want to move from that raucous share house into an apartment of your own so you can finally relax without worrying about housemates?

Whatever your reasons to move may be, there’s a part that we all dread; large, heavy furniture and appliances are difficult to move, even with the help of the best removalists in Sydney.

You will want to check out our tips before moving to a new home along with this article.

With that in mind, here are our top tips for moving large, heavy furniture:

Turn off and clean out all appliances at least a few hours before the move

Your trusted removalists Western Sydney will really help you out when it comes to moving your appliances. You don’t want to be carrying a washing machine that starts to leak dirty water on you. You definitely don’t want to be moving a microwave that drops food crumbs all over you. And you especially don’t want to move anything that may cause an electrical shock!

Remove anything that is removable to carry separately/ Disassemble anything that can be.

When it comes to moving more oversized items of furniture, it might be easy to break them down into smaller, more bite-sized pieces.

Your sofa may have large cushions that can be taken off and carried separately, and it may also have legs that can be unscrewed to help it fit through doorways and into vans. Your bed may be from a frame that can be disassembled into many much smaller pieces rather than one big heavy piece!

Not all can be of course, but if you have furniture that can be made into smaller, more manageable pieces, we strongly advise you to do this in preparation for the moving day.

Tape anything that can be taped down.

This is typically for any drawers or doors that need to be taped down, such as on your tallboy or your washing machine. It can be really distracting or difficult to move a big chest of drawers and have them all suddenly open as you try to carry it through the front door and down the stairs!

Measure Appliances, Furniture, and Doorways and Keep the Path from the Item to the door clear.

If you don’t already own one, we suggest you invest in a tape measure. Measure your items and your doorways so you know which way they will fit out of which doors. Sometimes you will have to lift furniture at strange angles and it really helps to lower your stress when you already have a clear idea of how you are going to move your large items out of the house.

Furthermore, it’s a good idea not only to know in what order you will move things but also to make sure the path from your item such as a fridge or sofa to the front door has no obstacles in the way. This helps to provide a quick, easy, and efficient way for you or your best removalists in Sydney City to come in, pick up, and move out your large, heavy furniture or appliances.

Bottom line

To summarise the tips before moving to a new home above, if you are prepared, know the size of your furniture and appliances, and also your doorways, you think about anything that can move or fall apart whilst you are carrying them. You think about the order you will be moving things in, you are sure to have a stress reduced moving day!

About The Author

Bill Chen

Before 2008, Bill was working with a local removalist company in Sydney and was witness for a number of deformities and wrongs in the working of the company. Observing the atmosphere, a thought came to Bill’s mind that he could do much better if he were the owner of the company, by offering a fully transparent service to the clients with a friendly and trustworthy staff and no hidden fee structure; and thus, in 2008, AAA Bill Removalists Sydney was formed with just one truck and only Bill as staff. Even if Bill Chen began the company as just one man, the company grew fast. The operation expanded beyond the Sydney suburbs and to the surrounding cities: Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne, Brisbane, and other.
